There's nerf guns, toy guns, plastic bullets, darts, network cables, network cards, wireless cards and what not lying all over the place...but I gotta head to work now and get some hardcore work done...

somebody is hitting the insensitive clod vote again and again...since I don't actually run the server this site resides on, I can't do much about spoofed IP addresses
so, here's how it's going to work, I saw 6 legit votes for 'you insensitive clod' in 4 days, so I'm going to just use simple variable calculus to extend and project what the final vote would have been and just eliminate all the extra clod votes.

So, to recap, that high number of insensitive clod votes are now m00t, but, you've made your point =)

On the note of votes, a comment was posted about Sana'a dressing up and going downtown and stuff. Now, that wasn't nice, I had a few requests to remove that quote but I believe in freedom of speech...so I'm going to leave it up (non censorship really)...but, if the person who posted that could post his/her name so the finger pointing can stop.

Here's the rather boring sequence of the convo...but I know a few hardcores out there will like it.

Please note: this email requires a prompt reply.

Hi there (let's keep things friendly),

I got a phone call from my ISP today that says I had a movie on my server
that I didn't have.

I have a coding and development server that is available only to me. This
server has only the graphics and computer programs that I develop. One of
the graphics "posters" I developed was called Austin Powers 3. It has a
collage of pictures from freely available sources (on the official
website) and the creation of this poster (to use as wallpaper on a
computer) is completely legal.

What I want to know is why you deemed that image to be a movie, and why
you contacted my ISP and told them I had Austin Powers 3 "Goldmember" on
my server. I am disgusted that your researchers would attempt to get my
connection (which I depend on to do my job) removed because of a piece of
poster art that I made (legally).

Second of all, how were your researchers able to visit my server? There
is a disclamer saying only this:
This is a private server, it belongs to me and only I may enter.

So what makes your researchers (again, not pointing fingers at you) deem
that they are me?

I expect a reply as soon as possible as I need to explain to my ISP what
is going on. I need my internet connection to do my job so that I can eat
and survive and the last thing I need is some people to tell me that a 60
kb image constitutes an illegal movie.

Please reply soon.

You received a reference number in your e-mail.  Please give me that number so I can forward this to a supervisor.

Hi there,
I'm getting a reference number from my ISP but if you could get
your supervisor to email me.  Also if you could forward the following to
your supervisor:

I got a complaint through my ISP regarding Harry Potter and Austin Powers.
I have neither of these on my system.  Rather I have a private server and
I just did a search on my server and did not find any results on Harry
Potter or Austin Powers but I did find results for Pottery and Austin.
The results appeared because my mother runs a Pottery business and I have
made her website and left it on the server as inspiration for fellow web
designers.

If found results for Austin because I have a car and I took pictures of
it.  Coincidentally the car is called:  Austin Mini.

So I'm wondering how that happenned?  Also, I found several text files
(with nothing in them) on my server:  they were called by funny names
(like vgl or something) and they had goldmember in their name but the
extension was .txt and they 0 bytes in size.

Please reply (and I'm getting the number from my ISP)

I can only forward this information with a reference number because we literally take down thousands sites daily.

Hi there again,
Really sorry to take up so much of your time but my ISP just told
me it was Mediaforce that filed the complaint.  Very very sorry to bother you.

With some of the people mentioned in the vote out of town, I've decided to extend the vote by 2 days. So until Sunday. This should give them ample oppurtunity to catch up.

Ok, I promised ya'll some content for today...bit of a story behind the content:
I was on my way back from Guelph when I decided that I wanted to talk and sing, but not alone, consider yourselves invisible passengers in this 18 part mini series created specially for your enjoyment. Please note, this was fun to make.

Part 1: Singing (like a horse),download mp3 (842 kb).

I will be posting the other parts over the day and so on...if I get good feedback then I'll post them at a faster rate (good as in people want to hear the rest), otherwise I'll keep you in suspense.

I was driving back from Guelph when I decided to record me talking to thin air...the 12 meg file that resulted will be available soon (broken into smaller chunks).

I have it from good authority (cousin and sister) that the recordings are highly embarrasing...all the better. They will be available without anything being cut out...unedited and unrated. Coming soooon.

Jepson has taken the lead in the polls and I think it'll continue to grow late into the week. Here's how the polls work:
You vote
Your IP gets recorded
A cookie gets placed in your browser
When you visit again, the page looks for the cookie.
If the cookie is found then the poll results are shown.
If the cookie is not found then the IP address is checked.
If the IP address is not found then the poll is shown, otherwise the results are shown.

Now...the IP is placed in a database and it expires over time (10 - 20 minutes).

So how is Jepson getting all these votes? He is visiting each server in the Math environment (bacon, rees, magnus...so on) and then voting from there. So he's voting for himself every x minutes A LOT of times.

Now the cats out of the bag, I think the others can catch up pretty quickly.

Another poorly written article by me...

As fat and greedy baseball players began urgent talks to end the threat of a strike, many a fan noticed that they really don't care anymore and perhaps they should just "go outside and play soccer" as one annoyed gentleman put it.

Yes, baseball has lost all its glamour as its players continue to think that they play an important role in society. Even chewing tobacco companies have lost faith in the players, "We've found that tobacco works great as soles for soccer cleats and so we no longer rely on baseball players to put our kids through college" said one spokesperson.

Turns out it was Mediaforce that did the replying...more on them soon and me talking to them =)

PS: I'll have a transcript of my convo with the folks at the MPAA
Posted at 12:42 pm Monday August 12th 2002
I've been sending email to the folks over there and they've been replying promptly. In fact, they person I'm talking to is quite polite...but that's probably because they have to.

(update, please read the news articles futher down before commenting on this one)

My ISP called me up minutes ago and told me that the MPAA had officially filed a complaint against me. Now get this, the complaint is for having Harry Potter on my computer. I'm not sure if it's the movie or book or whatever but I did a search on various (individual) items on my computer and here are the results (these are strict searches, as in it searches for that word on its own):
Harry Potter (0 results)
Harry (0 results)
Hairy (2 results)
Potter (0 results)
Pottery (25 results) <--- I am making my mothers website and she runs a Pottery company...

The other complaint they had was for Austin Powers Goldmember. Now...isn't that still in theatres? Any how, I did a search on that:
Austin Powers (0 results)
Austin Powers Goldmember (0 results)
Austin (5 results) <--- I have pictures of the Austin Mini (a really nice car)
Powers (0 results)

So...I think that they might be on crack and have a very poorly made search engine.
Also, all the items found were sitting on a test server that is available to the public but not really used by anybody except me (and my friends).
Anyways, I sent an email and am expecting a reply, I want to get my name cleared =)

Please post comments as I'm sure we all have comments on this
